The Shoppes at Blackhawk Village is a redevelopment of a former Nash Finch grocery store facility. The Shoppes are situated in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area and services a stable trade area that contains a total of just over 300,000 people. The economy of the area has diversified from its historical reliance on agriculture. It now includes a wide range of manufacturing, financial, medical, and educational employers, including the University of Northern Iowa with an enrollment of over 14,000 students and over 2,100 employees.
